Norma de Luxe – Flying Holiday – Experience soaring, thermals, and cross-country flying
Just an hour’s drive south of Rome, nestled in the Lepini Mountains, lies the picturesque town of Norma. With a launch site at 450 meters above sea level and an impressive 25 km ridge, this flying area offers ideal conditions for both beginners and experienced pilots. Thanks to its proximity to the Mediterranean Sea — just 15 km away — you can enjoy a steady sea breeze combined with smooth, consistent thermals—perfect for relaxing and successful flights. The spacious takeoff and landing site provide a safe introduction to thermal flying and soaring. A-license beginners can gradually build confidence and extend their flight times with professional and, if desired, continuous radio assistance. Advanced pilots working toward their B-license and those who have already attended B-theory courses will find plenty to enjoy: The ridge invites pilots to hours-long scenic flights with opportunities for cross-country routes up to 40 kilometers in the evenings. On the first days we train in the mornings with calm glides and explore the first thermal and soaring techniques. As the sea breeze system stabilizes and thermals become consistent and widespread, we make full use of the ideal conditions—suitable for both soaring beginners and recreational pilots. The midday thermal pause is perfect for a siesta. A special highlight is the opportunity for top landings on the plateau of the Norba ruins, ideal for unforgettable sunset flights.
